Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Compute Product Manager will manage all aspects of Synchrony’s private & public cloud server environments.  Leading a team of infrastructure engineers, architects and administrators, you will be responsible for customer engagement, provisioning, engineering, configuration management and operations for more than 10,000 Windows and Linux Operating System instances.

 

The candidate will possess a deep understanding of IT Infrastructure, specifically operating systems and how they relate to applications, storage, access management and network.  Demonstrated experience with Incident, Change and Problem Management is a must.  Expertise in OS configuration management is also required. Synchrony utilizes automation to maintain adherence to strict OS configuration standards.

 

As Synchrony continues on their public cloud journey, the candidate must develop leadership in the creation and management of newer ‘cloud specific’ capabilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple product teams in support of compute products and services:

    • Engineering of OS images and related capabilities

    • System configuration management & adherence to baselines

    • OS Operations, patching and upgrades

    • Infrastructure Provisioning, Decommission and Configuration Management

    • Develop product strategy and roadmap

  • Trains staff, sets objectives, accountable for budget, performance, and results of team

  • Manage and contribute to quarterly scaled agile planning for compute products

  • Own and govern compute standards, job aids and procedures

  • Proactively identify risks and own mitigation through new or strengthened controls

  • Serve as an escalation point for compute incident management

  • Serve as the senior expert in Compute OS Technology

  • Governance oversight of OS Technology not directly within scope of team’s management

  • Work closely with other infrastructure teams to implement new automated controls

  • Partner with infrastructure program teams such as lifecycle management and vulnerability management to ensure alignment and prioritization

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field, and 8+ years of experience leading core operations, engineering and engagement for servers or 12+ years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Experience managing cross regional infrastructure teams

  • Certification & experience with cloud platforms – AWS, Azure and GCP

  • Expertise in infrastructure automation tools – Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Aria Automation/Orchestration

  • Expertise with Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems and related infrastructure components

  • Experience with ITIL and ServiceNow

  • Experience with scaled agile and managing product teams

Grade/Level: 13

The salary range for this position is 155,000.00 – 260,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
