Role Summary/Purpose:

The Payment Systems Product Owner plays a pivotal role in implementing the roadmap for Synchrony’s Payment Hub by bridging the gap between the strategic vision and tactical execution to deliver on stakeholder needs. This role develops and maintains product roadmaps, manages dependencies across teams and provides subject matter expertise on the Payment Hub’s products and services.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Roadmap & Strategy:

  • Support development of the roadmap for the Payment Hub’s products and services by applying cross-functional, systems-based thinking to identify, understand and manage the complexities and interdependencies within the product ecosystem.

  • Develop, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring that it reflects the product vision, key milestones, stakeholder needs, and system dependencies.

Product Development & Execution:

  • Oversee the development of the product; be a key player throughout each ceremony.  Accessible to clarify product requirements and ensure delivery against expectations.

  • Write and prioritize user stories with a clear understanding of stakeholder perspectives.

  • Oversee testing process by signing off on QA scripts and on QA testing, leading UAT (writing and/or securing test scripts, storing documentation) and obtaining stakeholder sign offs.

  • Oversee the release process, ensuring deployments are planned and executed smoothly in alignment with business goals and partnering with tech leads to transition to run.

  • Lead Post-Prod Validation (writing and/or securing post-prod validation scripts and signoff).

  • Monitor key performance indicators to evaluate the success of the product and the efficiency of cross-team interactions.

  • Regularly refine backlog items to ensure clarity and readiness for development.

  • Create and maintain standardized functional documentation of each feature.

Stakeholder Management & Leadership:

  • Lead scrum teams while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, execution excellence, and customer-centricity. Provide context and clarity on product features.

  • Regularly engage with stakeholders across all parts of the business and IT to gather and prioritize their needs and expectations. This includes validating development progress and negotiating priorities, managing expectations, and validating stakeholder buy-in.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree OR in lieu of degree; high school diploma/GED and 8+ years of project management or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking.

  • 5+ years of  project management or agile development experience within financial services, fintech, or commercial banking.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience supporting the development of payment products and services, preferably in relation to a centralized payments function

  • Familiarity with multiple payment methods (i.e., ACH, wire, instant payments, etc.) and their associated file formats or rules (i.e., NACHA, ISO20022, SWIFT, etc.)

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (AML, KYC, PCI-DSS, OCC and CFPB regulations).

  • Proactive, with a high degree of self-initiation

  • Demonstrated strong quality/process improvement experience, with relevant examples that improved business performance and customer experience

  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize disparate and/or complicated requirements into innovative solutions and cohesive product features within a virtual environment.

Grade/Level: 12

                                                            

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 – 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
