Roshane’s Journey

As someone who fully embodies our always learning mindset, Roshane Miller never guessed that he would work in security. While he was studying web development and coding, he taught himself security best practices and created a portfolio of projects intended to address potential security threats, like running a geolocation lookup or estimation of an IP address. Roshane’s passion and ability to teach himself complex things caught the eye of a Synchrony recruiter, who then reached out with an opportunity: Synchrony’s Technology Apprenticeship program. From there he impressed interviewers with his website’s function, and the rest is history.

Synchrony’s Tech Apprenticeship, like all its programs, is designed to provide all the tools you need to succeed in your role, from learning to mentors to special projects. Roshane and the others in the program started with a week-long computer science overview while meeting mentors who would help guide the rest of their journey. After that, they dove right into two six-month rotations that would allow them to continue to take courses while getting real-world experience in their field.

Roshane rotated in JSOC and Cyber Intelligence before starting his current role as a Threat Detection Analyst where he’s making a real impact for our business and customers. “There was an immediate difference in responsibility, but the base of knowledge from the rotations and courses allowed me to take off the training wheels. I felt like I was equipped with the right tools,” he says.
