Role Summary/Purpose:
The Assistant Vice President, API Software Development Engineering Lead serves as a hands-on engineer responsible for building and evolving high-scale API platforms that power billions of transactions. This role combines deep technical expertise with writing and reviewing code and leading by example to ensure time-sensitive initiatives are delivered on schedule, meet engineering standards, and align to business outcomes. This role maintains high engineering quality through rigorous code reviews and architecture reviews, enforcing secure coding practices, performance and reliability standards and CI/CD quality gates. They actively mentor and technically coach engineers—pairing on complex problems, guiding design and implementation decisions, sharing best practices and reusable patterns, and providing actionable feedback to grow individual capability and strengthen team execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- To work in flexible shift timings and participate in a cross-shore development team
- Lead a team of engineers, coach and empower them to work efficiently and be responsible to deliver API’s
- Review and Approve code modules using formal approval process
- Influence and collaborate to deliver APIs with high quality and sound design principles
- Participate in Agile scrums with cross-functional teams
- Participate in Agile sprints including technical story writing, planning, daily standups, backlog grooming sessions and reviews.
- Participate in Scaled Agile Ceremonies.
- Provide on-call support
- Coach Senior/Junior Engineers
- Analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause and implement fixes
- Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into our products
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related degree with modern application development experience, with a minimum 5 years of experience in Technology,
3+ years in API development and At least 1 year of experience in leading a Team. - Strong Technical Expertise in Java, Spring Projects - Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Cloud, Spring Batch, Git, Maven, REST, Spring Kafka
- Strong Experience in developing microservices with 12-factor app methodology.
- Good to have knowledge of Caching Services – Redis/Gemfire.
- Strong Experience with Agile application development and familiarity with tools like JIRA.
- Strong Experience with continuous integration environments and using tools like Jenkins.
- Strong Experience writing unit and integration tests and familiarity with frameworks like Junit, Mockito and Spring Test.
- Strong desire to develop high quality code with the ability to review and leverage quality check tools like Sonar, PMD, etc.
- Familiarity in designing applications using SOLID principles, Java, and microservice design patterns with business acumen.
- Familiarity with Cloud Platform like Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS.
- Working knowledge in RDBMS and NoSQL Databases.
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical peers.
- Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization.
- Strong attention to detail in a team environment.
- Strong experience in using Monitoring Tools like Splunk & New Relic
- Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Eligibility Criteria:Bachelor's degree with minimum 5 years of IT experience or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of IT experience
Work Timings: 2 PM -11 PM IST
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose from. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
