Our Analytics organization comprises of data analysts who focus on enabling strategies to enhance customer and partner experience and optimize business performance through data management and development of full stack descriptive to prescriptive analytics solutions using cutting edge technologies thereby enabling business growth.
Role Summary/Purpose:
AVP, Business Intelligence – DV&L: This role is part of India Analytics Hub & Global Business Intelligence (IAH & GBI) org. The role will deliver on business and organizational priorities for Diversified & Value and Lifestyle (DV&L) platforms focusing on business intelligence solutions, that are powered by data and analytics. This role is responsible for developing and enhancing BI products (dashboards, datasets, semantic layers, and standardized reporting) while also providing consulting support to stakeholders. Working under the VP – Business Intelligence, this role partners with platform analytics, data engineering, and business teams to translate requirements into governed, performant BI solutions, ensuring accuracy, usability, and adoption. This role combines technical development (SQL, BI tools, data validation) with strong consulting skills (requirement clarification, storytelling, training and communication) to help drive measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, automate, maintain and enhance BI products from wing to wing, including gathering clear requirements, programming/data pulling, ETL, automation, product delivery, and maintaining documentation/job aide.
- Daily use of SQL, SAS, and Python (future), ensuring consistent definitions and process governance.
- Drive measurable operational efficiency and standard processes for BI product delivery.
- Deliver on projects and initiatives, assigned by VP – Business Intelligence and management to advance team and business priorities, including new partner onboarding and Cloud/AI journey.
- Be an SME and business consultant by understanding business needs and performance trends; share analytical thinking with solutions translating needs into insights and recommendations.
- Upgrade knowledge on BI technical and functional advancements (AI) and deploy learnings on existing and future deliverables – be the SME and trainer to teams.
- Collaborate with US and India cross functional teams (including Tech, Finance, Marketing) to strengthen BI practice.
- Engage in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Optimize performance of BI solutions (query tuning, extract strategies, aggregations, incremental refresh patterns) and support scalability.
- Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into technical design and build tasks; provide LOE estimates and highlight dependencies/risks.
- Partner with stakeholders to clarify business questions, identify underlying decision needs, and propose the most appropriate BI solution (dashboard, dataset, alerting, or standardized report).
- Document metric definitions, business logic, data sources, refresh cadence, and known limitations; maintain dashboard/report documentation for supportability.
- Apply access and security requirements (e.g., row-level security concepts, permission) as defined by platform standards and in coordination with administrators.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience in creating BI, reporting and data visualization solutions through tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar BI/visualization platforms and BI best practices (performance, usability, basic security/access concepts).
- Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience with SAS programing language and with relational databases (SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) for validation, reconciliation, and data-driven decisioning.
- Deep understanding of data modeling concepts (schemas, dimensional modeling basics) and data warehousing fundamentals (e.g., Data Lakes, Snowflake, AWS Redshift).
- Working knowledge of data warehousing/lakehouse concepts, ETL patterns, and data modeling fundamentals (schemas, dimensions/facts, orchestration).
- Demonstrated experience in scheduling, executing, monitoring, and troubleshooting production jobs.
- Experience of partnering with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify definitions, and translate needs into appropriate BI solutions.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to present insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and collaborate across multiple time zones (US/India).
- Ability to solve complex technical and business problems with minimal supervision.
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
- Python for analysis, automation, or prototyping.
- Knowledge of Synchrony specific data, tools, systems and processes.
- Experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks) and related tooling.
- Knowledge of AI/GenAI applications in BI and associated considerations.
- Business acumen, preferably in financial services domain.
- Functional knowledge of Marketing, Sales, and/or Credit lifecycle.
- Innovative mindset to improve current capabilities and discover new ones.
Eligibility Criteria:
Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or any other quantitative streams with 4+ years of hands-on relevant analytics/business intelligence experience, or in lieu of a degree 6+ years of relevant analytics/business intelligence experience.
Work Timings:
This role requires the candidate to be based in Hyderabad or one of Synchrony’s designated anchor cities (Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi/Gurgaon, Kolkata, Bangalore), where we have office workspaces, under our Enhanced Flexibility model. The candidate will be expected to be available between 6:00 AM and 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to U.S. Eastern Time and adjusted locally twice a year for daylight saving). This window is reserved for collaboration with Asia and U.S. teams. The remaining work hours offer flexibility based on business and team needs. Employees may work from home or from a Synchrony workspace in their designated anchor city and may be required to work from the office or travel to a Regional Engagement Hub periodically for in-person collaboration, including business meetings, training sessions, and culture events.
