Role Summary/Purpose:
The Assistant Vice President - Principal Engineer, craves working in a hands-on system design and architecture environment and leads by example to make sure time sensitive projects get done on time and to specifications. To be successful in this role will require deep expertise in payment card processing industry, and experience with event-driven architecture, microservice architecture, cloud technologies and Artificial Intelligence. The ability to influence and lead a team are musts.
This AVP will lead the development and support of Credit Card processing platforms by creating and developing thoughtful solutions that avoid software defects and maintain operational excellence. In short, you would be one of our technical experts and team leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and architect solutions that meet SYF business requirements to deliver business value by enabling rapid innovation through modern software development practices and product delivery through rapid innovation and continuous integration. In-depth knowledge of credit application and web application platforms.
- Perform Technology Alternate Assessment, create Proof-of-Concept (as necessary) Provides guidance and direction to product teams to ensure compliance with the standards and best practices Work collaboratively with Product Management and Platform Engineering teams during development, launch and continuing refinement of products iteratively
- Lead Agile sprints as the technical expert, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming sessions, and sprint reviews
Influence and collaborate with software developers, UX designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create high performing and reliable application components. - Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the company's products
- Drive a CI/CD strategy using our Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy stack.
- Maintain deep hands-on technical knowledge of evaluating trends in modern software development practices.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 7 years of experience with software engineering OR, in lieu of degree 9 years of experience with software engineering.
- 5+ years of applied Java experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Credit Card Acquisition platform with ample knowledge in credit card application processing and decisioning systems.
- Experience in Front End UI (JavaScript/Typescript) development and Backend Java programming.
- Critical Thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers.
- Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience C++, Java, Kafka, DevOps and Agile based Development
- Experience with database architecture, data modeling and familiarity with MySQL & SQL
- Familiarity with JSON, REST and XML based web services
- Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers
- Experience with writing unit, and integration test cases for high availability
- Knowledge on AI Tools for Developers ( Like GitHub Co-pilot, Rovo etc), Development of AI Agents, Understanding of tools, skills and Instruction markdown files etc.
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 7 years of experience with software engineering OR, in lieu of degree 9 years of experience with software engineering.
Work Timings: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs) We are proud to offer flexibility at Synchrony. Our way of working allows you the option to work from home or workspaces in our Regional Engagement Hubs—Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, or Delhi/NCR. Occasionally you may be required to commute or travel to Hyderabad or one of the Regional Engagement Hubs for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, trainings, and culture events.
