Organizational Overview:
The position would be responsible for entire lifecycle of the engineering workforce in India, which operates around the clock, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. An ideal candidate will bring an outstanding skill set and experience base in application engineering in financial services Industry, should be able to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, while maintaining world-class steady state operations.
Role Summary/Purpose:
The Vice President – Engineering Leader will provide leadership, vision and direction to the engineering organization to ensure it will contribute to the Synchrony achieving its goals as a critical member of the leadership team. This leader will be responsible for co-developing and executing the technology strategy and partner across engineering team; leading the India workforce. The leader will build and enable a culture that results in a top performing team in partnership with the global technology teams and business leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, vision and direction to the engineering India organization of ~ 400 to ~500 people and growing, to ensure positive contributions towards the company goals and objectives.
- Support the engineering organizations transformation into AI Assisted Software Engineering. Drive usage of AI tools through learning and engagement.
- Provide Leadership vision for QE Center of Excellence (CoE) and drive enterprise level strategy for quality governance, metrics, adoption, execution, tools and quality assurance.
- Provide Leadership vision for Application support & SRE Team to drive the engineering run operation standardization with vendor partners, implementing resiliency best practices and design patterns across the engineering applications.
- Collaborate with Technology Operations, Infrastructure & Cloud Platform teams and InfoSec team to develop and deliver resiliency and unified SRE dashboards.
- Coordinate leadership across multiple engineering teams that dual-report to their global leadership and the India management team.
- Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence solution architecture based on the business requirements.
- Implementing technology strategy in line with the business expectations.
- Strong people management skills – providing direction, monitoring performance, motivating staff and building a positive working environment
- Developing team’s skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps.
- Excellent communication skills – providing verbal and written communication that is outstanding to both direct reports and senior management as well as other stakeholders
- Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization
- Flexible and adaptable – capable of changing direction where required and showing flexibility to meet new demands
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
- Partner with Technology Leaders in US and India on talent strategies, engagement, and career progression/ pathing.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or related information technology or related field, with a minimum of 15 years experience in technology and application development, 8 of which should be in a senior leadership position.
- Minimum of 5 years engineering background with exposure to Cloud technologies, DevOps, SRE and Quality practices.
- Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment to ensure that segregation and overlapping roles are identified and coordinated.
- Track record of leading teams that foster a culture of collaboration, demonstrating achievements in a multi-national, regulated, and highly technical and matrixed environment.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or related information technology or related field, with a minimum of 15 years experience in technology and application development, 8 of which should be in a senior leadership position.
- Minimum of 5 years engineering background with exposure to Cloud technologies, DevOps, SRE and Quality practices
Work Timings:
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
