Role Summary/Purpose:

The AVP, AML Governance Manager is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the AML Governance function through governance coordination, executive reporting, issue management, change management, and governance operations. The role serves as the operational backbone of the AML Governance team and enables effective execution of governance routines, management reporting, and program oversight activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Governance Operations

  • Coordinate governance routines, operating rhythms, committee activities, and management forums.
  • Maintain governance calendars, action tracking, and escalation processes.
  • Support preparation and follow-up activities for governance meetings and decision forums.
  • Facilitate governance-related communications and stakeholder engagement.

Program Reporting & Board Support

  • Produce and maintain AML program reporting, dashboards, and governance metrics.
  • Coordinate development of executive, committee, and Board reporting materials.
  • Gather, validate, and consolidate reporting inputs from across AML functions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, risk indicators, and program health metrics.
  • Identify trends and prepare management insights and reporting summaries.

Change Management & Impact Assessments

  • Coordinate governance review of business, regulatory, and organizational changes impacting the AML program.
  • Facilitate impact assessments and implementation planning activities.
  • Track governance approvals, dependencies, and implementation milestones.

Escalations & Emerging Risk Monitoring

  • Support intake, tracking, and governance of AML escalations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, enforcement actions, industry trends, and emerging risks.
  • Prepare summaries and impact assessments for AML leadership.
  • Track issues and emerging issues requiring management awareness or action.

Issue Management

  • As needed, provide day-to-day operational support for AML issue management, including intake, logging, categorization, and status tracking of issues, control gaps, and remediation items.

Additionally, support Internal Audit and regulatory exam requests, as required, and perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in Compliance Risk Management, BSA/AML, and/or financial crimes compliance within a regulated financial services environment. In lieu of a degree, high school diploma and 8+ BSA/AML and/or financial crimes compliance within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting governance routines (e.g., committee operating rhythms, materials, minutes/actions, escalation tracking) and executive-level reporting.
  • Strong ability to synthesize inputs from multiple AML functions into clear, accurate dashboards, metrics, and executive summaries; experience with KPI/KRI and “program health” reporting.
  • Experience coordinating change impact assessments related to business, regulatory, or organizational changes and tracking approvals/milestones through implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing materials for senior leadership, committees, and/or Board-level audiences.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), including creating management-ready materials.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Working knowledge of AML program governance and regulatory expectations for an effective compliance program, including how governance forums enable oversight, escalation, and decisioning.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence across a matrixed organization; comfortable driving alignment, accountability, and action tracking without formal authority.
  • Project/change management experience supporting cross-functional initiatives (regulatory, process, data, technology, or operating model), including planning, execution tracking, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Experience in issue management and risk/control, including tracking remediation and dependencies.
  • Familiarity with tools used for governance and reporting (e.g., eGRC platforms, SharePoint, Tableau or similar) and an ability to leverage automation/AI appropriately to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Grade/Level: 11

The salary range for this position is 90,000.00 - 155,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Our Way of Working:

We’re proud to offer you flexibility. At Synchrony, our way of working allows you to have the option to work from home near one of our Hubs or come into one of our offices. You will be required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training and culture events. 

*Field Sales and some Commercial team roles may have varied location requirements based upon partner obligations or preferences.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
