Joy Bowling, SVP Enterprise Initiatives and Innovation, exemplifies the spirit of diverse thinking that leads to technological innovation. In her time at Synchrony, she’s emphasized the importance of building diverse teams that understand the unique needs of our diverse customers and partners. Joy sees the value in diversity and knows that “having people with different backgrounds brings a new perspective that helps us build better products.”

As the first Black SVP in our Technology function, Joy is demonstrating a potential career path for young technologists. Joy is a member of our Black Experiences+ (BE+) Network, which supports Black employees and allies through professional development, career management and mentoring. That support forms the foundation of a lasting career. “Being a part of BE+ has been important to me in my career because I know that I have the right people having conversations about me to help me grow my career,” she said.

Now, Joy is determined to share the support she’s had throughout her career to the next generation of diverse talent in tech. Along with fellow leaders at Synchrony, Joy understands the importance of having mentors and sponsors who can recognize hard work and potential and fuel career growth for her team. “As a Black woman in a leadership position, it is my responsibility to make sure that I am supporting my peers as they come up the ranks.”
