Get to know our diverse leaders: Delia Garced

Delia is developing next generation leadership

Q: Tell us about your current role and how it makes an impact on overall company goals.

A: I’m the SVP Client Marketing for Health and Wellness. I work with our dental, vet and lifecycle teams for Synchrony’s Health and Wellness platform. One of my major responsibilities is to work closely with my team to design strategies and campaigns that will build awareness, drive client/practice enrollment to help people and pets get the care they need and want. I like to put myself in the provider’s office, in the consumer’s shoes, to really understand how to provide a holistic solution to their financing needs.

Q: What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on so far?

A: It’s an exciting time to be at Synchrony. We have amazing growth opportunities, providing new solutions for our partners and entering adjacent markets. It’s a combination of art and science. I’ve been focused on the science part working on our marketing tech stack, engaging with go-to-market teams, leveraging data and driving more value for the business.

Q: Can you tell us about your career experience prior to joining Synchrony?

A: I’ve had a long career, most recently at a life sciences company. Throughout my career I’ve taken care to find places that have a culture of leadership development and diversity of thought. I’ve been lucky to work for places where I see leaders that represent me as a Hispanic woman and I’ve been able to be that leader for others.

Q: How did you learn about Synchrony, and what attracted you to us?

A: I’m a member of the Latinx Executive Alliance. That’s how I got connected on LinkedIn with some senior leaders at Synchrony. From there, I saw their posts highlighting the culture – giving back to the community, business highlights, awards and I knew that it was the type of place that aligned with my values. When I started looking for that next position, Synchrony was at the top of my list.

Q: Did anything surprise you after you joined Synchrony?

A: The great culture that I had heard about was even better than I expected. Leaders aren’t just talking the talk, they really care about the same things I do. The moment I arrived, the Women’s Network+ and the Hispanic Network+ reached out. Leaders were asking if I needed anything and setting time on my calendar to connect. That kind of openness was something I wasn’t expecting and it was exponentially better than I dreamed.

Q: Can you share your perspective on how you’ve seen the power of diversity come to life at Synchrony?

A: I just came back from a working session with all the Hispanic executives where we talked about how to attract and retain Hispanic talent. We’re always talking about the ways we can make ourselves available to employees so they can reach out to talk about their next career steps. We have Hispanic Wellness coaches, webinars and working sessions. I’m also involved with the Women’s Network+, which emphasizes intersectionality. That inclusiveness is really heartening and really represents the wider culture at Synchrony.

Q: What are you looking forward to most with your career at Synchrony?

A: Development, both for myself and tomorrow’s leaders. I’m always thinking about my skillset and how I can drive impact for customers, employees and the company, while helping to develop the next generation of talent. I’m looking to grow my partnership with others, honing those relationships while we work toward our common goals.
